What to expect while visiting Mexico

Posted on 3 m read

Sometimes going to a new place can be scary, and can often leave you feeling like you don’t know exactly what to expect. You hear a lot of stuff on youtube, facebook, and Instagram, some good and some bad! That is why we are here to tell you, what exactly travelers from other countries can expect while traveling to Mexico:

 Weather

Ok ok, we all have heard the fantastic things about the beautiful weather in Mexico, and that’s probably one of the main reasons someone may choose to vacation in Mexico, right….

Anyways, let’s just say it’s hot hot hot, and depending on where you are coming from *cough *cough Canada, it’s going to be a whole new experience! So what does that mean? Yes, it means pack lots and lots of sunscreens, oh, and aloe vera *cough *cough Canada.

Food and Drinks

Do you like Pina Coladas, and eating Tacos on the Sand? Wait, that’s how it goes…right? Ok maybe not, but that is something that is definitely possible in Mexico and frankly, it sounds much much better!

Mexico offers a whole new menu of gastronomy, and tho Mexico is well known for them, yes there are more than just Tacos and Tequila. See for yourself at the Gourmex Restaurant in Sandos Playacar offering traditional Mexican Cuisine and Drinks! If the cuisine here in Mexico isn’t for you, there are plenty of options on and off the resort that offers selections from all over the world!

Culture

One of the biggest things to prepare for when coming to Mexico is the change of culture, and that includes religion, manners, celebrations, food, music, and much, much more! Tho you may not experience some of it, only respect that you are in a different place and respect everyone and everything you see! Just remember, you’re coming into a new country, so some things are going to be just a little different!

Experience just how diverse the culture is through the Mayan Night Performances in Sandos Caracol, or the Mexico Nights full of traditional cuisine, mariachi bands, and dances at Sandos Playacar, Sandos Finisterra, and Sandos Caracol!

Now here are 3 ¨heads-ups¨ if you decide to do a little shopping:

  1. A big thing you’re going to experience if you decide to shop in the tourist areas outside of the resort, like the 5th avenue in Playa del Carmen, is people trying to get you to buy their stuff! It can be a bit overwhelming at times, but a lot of places have some homemade and unique products, so we do suggest checking them out, you may just find a diamond in the rough!
  2. A big difference from where you are coming from is the lack of public bathrooms. They can sometimes by near and far, especially in the shopping tourist areas, so if someone asks you if you need to use the bathroom before leaving the resort or restaurant, don’t lie and say you just went, take every opportunity you can. One tip is to carry a bit of change, because if you do happen to find a public bathroom you may need a couple of pesos to use it!
  3. Hopefully you have bargaining skills because you’re going to need them! Being in a tourist area, some things tend to be high priced, so we recommend haggling just a little when buying from sellers, but remember to respect their art and work, trust us, it´s so beautiful!

Well, there it is, a few things to expect while taking your next Mexico Vacation to Sandos Finisterra, Sandos Cancun, Sandos Caracol, or Sandos Playacar!
