Things To Do in Cancun

Here at Sandos Cancun Lifestyle Resort, we love lounging by the pool all day just as much as you do! And we have the three infinity pools to prove it. Even so, sometimes when you’re in paradise, you get the urge to just go out and explore. The city of Cancun offers all kinds of activities for curious travelers, whether you want to play in the Caribbean Sea or see some Maya ruins.

Keep reading to check out our top tips on things to do in Cancun when you’re not lounging by the pool…

Things to do in Cancun

Relax on Cancun’s Beaches

Of course, the number one reason for vacationing in Cancun is the amazing beaches. The entire Hotel Zone boasts miles and miles of white sand and bright waters in stunning shades of blue and turquoise. The beach at Sandos Cancun is no exception, offering a stretch of soft white sand bordered by the Caribbean Sea. Throughout your stay in this destination, you’ll want to spend as much time as possible strolling along the coastline, building sand castles, or lounging with an ocean view.

La Isla Shopping Village Cancun shopping

Shopping in Cancun From Luxury to Local Markets

Whether you’re looking for luxury brands or the perfect souvenir, the city of Cancun has numerous shopping venues for all kinds of travelers. You can explore several beautiful malls just minutes away from the resort, including the famous La Isla Shopping Village with high-end brands and dining on the lagoon. The newer Puerto Cancun mall sits right between Downtown and the Hotel Zone, offering a VIP movie theater and a gourmet food court with marina views. For a more local experience, head to the popular Downtown mall Plaza Las Americas on a busy Sunday afternoon.

When searching for souvenirs of your Cancun vacation, try one of the city’s three markets. Coral Negro Market is easiest to reach, located in the Party Center area of the Hotel Zone. Market 28 can be found in the center of Downtown, covering a full square block with souvenir stands and casual open-air eateries. For a true local experience, head further into Downtown to Market 23 just off Avenida Tulum; in addition to fresh produce and a variety of local businesses, this maze-like market also has a section dedicated to affordable souvenirs like hammocks, t-shirts, and jewelry.

Party Center Cancun nightclubs

Things to do in Cancun at Night

Cancun’s nightclub scene ranks among the best in the globe. Just a few minutes from the resort is the infamous Party Center area, easily reachable by taxi or city bus. Here you’ll find iconic Cancun nightclubs like Coco Bongo, Señor Frog’s, and Dady’O for an unforgettable night out during your trip.

And hey, if the wild party scene isn’t really your thing, you can expect a low-key vacation just by avoiding the Party Center area since the rest of the city is pretty calm. If you’re staying at Sandos Cancun, stop by Bar One in the lobby or Bar Two by the beach for a relaxed evening experience; we often have live music or even events for our guests, not to mention our specialty cocktails!

Snorkeling in Cancun

The clear water surrounding Cancun makes this city a wonderful destination for water sports! The region is filled with spots for snorkeling and diving, whether you want to swim with whale sharks in the summer, explore the coral reefs, or visit the Cancun Underwater Museum. You can even try water activities like paddle boarding or flyboarding in the lagoon or on the ocean, or book a parasailing tour to see the city from a bird’s eye view.

El Rey Maya ruins Cancun

Maya Ruins in Cancun

Yes, you can absolutely book a tour to top Maya cities like Chichen Itza or Tulum during your Cancun trip! But did you know that we also have ancient Maya ruins right here in the Hotel Zone? For the equivalent of just a few dollars, you can visit El Rey ruins (and take your photo with the famous CANCUN letters at nearby Playa Delfines while you’re there), or explore the jungles surrounding the smaller San Miguelito ruins along with the adjoining Maya Museum. Both of these sites are just five minutes from the hotel by bus or taxi, making them an easy and affordable way to experience ancient Maya culture in just one morning.
