Earth Hour Caracol Eco Experience Resort

Earth Hour At Sandos

This weekend, we turned off all the lights at our Riviera Maya resorts! And it was all for the environment.

Sandos Caracol Eco Experience Resort and Sandos Playacar Beach Experience Resort both participated in Earth Hour, an annual event in which people and businesses across the globe turn off their lights for 1 hour to display their support for the environment.

 Earth Hour

Earth Hour began in Australia in 2007, and today it involves over 7,000 cities and towns worldwide… including Playa del Carmen, Mexico. To participate, all that’s needed is to turn your power off for 1 hour; this year, the Earth Hour was March 29 from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. This movement strives to unite the global community through creating awareness on environmental preservation.

Here’s what we did during Earth Hour at our Riviera Maya resorts:

Right before Earth Hour, the Kids Club organized its very own eco fashion show! Kids designed and created their very own eco outfits using recycled materials and plants, and they did an amazing job. For more photos of the Kids Club eco fashion show, visit the album on our Facebook page.

Once the lights were all turned off, we lit up the darkness with a thrilling fire show!

And to complete the evening once the lights came back on, of course we couldn’t resist a night of karaoke. (Our Sandos Playacar guests all know how much we love a good karaoke night!)

The Earth Hour festivities began at 7pm around the main cenote at Sandos Caracol, a beautiful location for an environmental event. Guests listened to live music accompanied by a video about mother earth, followed by a presentation on the importance of the environment.

The lights went off at 8pm. Kids and adults alike told us why they were grateful to mother earth as they each released a floating candle into the waters of the cenote in thanks to nature.

We hope you can join us soon at Sandos Hotels & Resorts for an eco friendly beach vacation!
