On Thursday December 13, 2012 Sandos Caracol Eco Hotel and Resort hosted the official signing of a unique collaboration agreement between Sandos Hotels and cooperative community of Xyaat in Quintana Roo.
Attended by representatives of the local press and international human rights commission, this ceremony marked the beginning of contract to promote culturally and environmentally sustainable tourism in Mayan communities in the area of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo.
The agreement creates unique opportunities for these Mayan communities to promote cultural and ecological tours directly to Sandos guests, with all of the profits for these tours going directly to the communities. The group will also sell authentic crafts at fair trade prices, allowing community craftspeople to receive higher profits from the sales of traditional crafts.
Sandos is very proud of the efforts our Eco department has made in creating a unique program that demonstrates a strong and on-going commitment to the promotion and strengthening of the cultural identity of indigenous communities of the Maya Riviera.
