New Vegetarian Restaurant Adds to the Sustainable Lifestyle at Sandos Caracol

Sandos Caracol Eco Resort & Spa goes beyond the traditional vacation experience of sand, sun and food. This Riviera Maya hideaway focuses on sustainable tourism, which aims to make as little impact on the local environment and culture as possible.

Now, Sandos Caracol has taken the next step in its sustainable philosophy by opening Salvia, an oceanfront vegetarian restaurant. Catering to individuals with specific dietary needs, Salvia’s menu is 100 percent vegetarian with more than 50 percent gluten-free options. Dining options include an extensive list of plant-based appetizers and main course options such as risotto with wild mushrooms and a gluten-free grandma’s stew. Each menu item was crafted to satisfy the wants and needs for all guest types. Embracing an exotic yet eco-friendly feel, the restaurant features an open dome architectural design with wicker, wood and soft colors.

Sandos Caracol is committed to providing a true eco-experience through environmental awareness, sustainable living and healthy eating options. Our vegetarian restaurant aims to provide guests with even more choices for a completely sustainable, healthy lifestyle experience at an all inclusive resort.

The resort boasts the original jungle and mangrove, filled with wild animals like spider monkeys, coatis, raccoons and all kinds of birds that have chosen Sandos Caracol as their home. Many of the guestrooms feature technology for reduced CO2 omissions, solar water heating, water recycling technology and low emission LED lighting.

Sandos Caracol participates in local recycling programs, including an on-site compost area that’s used to create soil for growing its own vegetables. The resort also runs its own plant nursery to reforest the grounds, complete with a Plant a Tree program that allows guests to commemorate their stay by planting one of the region’s beautiful trees. Sandos Caracol supports the community with our Help Us Help Others program, where guests and employees can donate items like clothing and toys to help local villages. The resort also works with local Mayan communities, who provide Sandos with traditional Mayan ceremonies as well as a Mayan beekeeping area, where stingless bees produce honey known for its healing properties. Five beautifully preserved cenotes offer a serene spot for guests to swim and explore the natural surroundings of the Riviera Maya, while the Xcalacoco experience features Mayan shows with spectacular dancing and costumes.

Go beyond a normal vacation with Sandos Caracol, where you can experience sustainable living during a dream vacation on the white sand beaches of Mexico’s Riviera Maya.
