Supporting mexican talent at the Oceanman Open Water 2017

Sandos Hotels & Resorts accompanies Lucila Navarese, a Mexican athlete, to compete at the Oceanman Swim in Benidorm, Spain.

The swimmer from Cancun, Lucila Navarese, has just become the first woman from the state of Quintana Roo to qualify for the Oceanman Open Water swimming championship, whose 2017 edition took place in Benidorm, Spain on October 15.

The athlete has been preparing since she was very young, and although she said she was nervous before leaving for Benidorm, she had been training for a long time both in a private pool and in the seas around Cozumel island, so she was ready to give everything in the Mediterranean.

As an official sponsor, Sandos Hotels & Resorts, a pro in creating unique travel experiences in Mexico and Spain, is proud of a swimmer like Lucila, whose strict discipline has brought great rewards in her life as an athlete.

“At 8:00 am (Spanish time // 1:00 am Mexico time), I will start the Oceanman #Benidorm2017 🇪🇦 covering 9.3 km of open waters. I will give everything to put Quintana Roo on top,” Lucila said from her Facebook account one day before the competition, and she definitely put the country’s name in a privileged position.

Her effort and rigor set her among the top ten places in the Elite category, swimming a total of 10 kilometers in open water and automatically qualifying for the Oceanman World Championship final.

“Very proud of what I accomplished, today I am part of the TOP 10 🔝 in the Elite category 🏊🏼‍♀ finishing the Oceanman #Benidorm2017 🌊 with a time of 2:22:44 🚀, even faster than the time I did in the Cozumel classification,” Lucila said in her social media.

Swimming in open waters is very different from swimming in a pool; direction, weather conditions, safety, and water density directly affect the athlete, so it certainly represents a physical and mental challenge for anyone who dares to do so.

Lucila stayed at the exclusive adults only Sandos Monaco hotel, where she had fun and relaxed before the competition. During her stay, she was also training hard in the gym complex, a well-equipped fitness center that’s perfect for staying energized.
