Here a few ways to take full advantage of every second of this summer’s family vacation at Sandos Hotels and Resorts:

2. A daytime bike ride to explore the resort’s grounds

3. A round of chess by a lush mangrove jungle

4. A day of activities and learning at one of our kids clubs

5. A round of pool or air hockey: parents vs kids!

6. An afternoon splashing through the waterpark at Sandos Caracol Eco Resort & Spa

7. Rainy day in paradise? Challenge the family to some video games!

8. And of course, a little something for Mom and Dad…

Sandos at the Beach Soccer Worldwide Riviera Maya Cup 2013

Category : Sandos News, Social

This past weekend, Sandos resorts was thrilled to sponsor and attend the Beach Soccer Worldwide Riviera Maya Cup 2013, held May 3 – 5 in one of our favorite cities: Playa del Carmen! With an impressive stadium set up right next to the Caribbean Sea at the famous Mamitas Beach Club, the 7-game event drew in thousands of spectators, most with cold Coronas in-hand and still dressed in their swimsuits. (Hey, it’s the beach!)

Brazil, Spain, the Bahamas and Mexico all went head-to-head for three afternoons, duking it out on the sands of Mamitas Beach Club while the crowd cheered, drank and did the wave. Each game got pretty intense, with players ending every period covered head-to-toe in sand to prove they fought tooth and nail.

Every day of the event saw teams coming from behind for epic last-minute victories, but in the end it was Brazil who won the cup and all the bragging rights.

And of course, who could forget the halftime performances from our co-sponsors Corona and Coco Bongo?

Spectators who showed up Sunday afternoon were in for a real treat: a celebrity game filled with TV hosts, Mexico beach soccer team players, soap opera actors and musicians. The celeb personalities played on teams for sponsors Sandos resorts (that’s us!) and the Riviera Maya.

A stay at Sandos Cancun Luxury Experience Resort helped the celebs to relax and get in optimal playing form for their big Sunday match. (Glad you guys had a good time!)

Sandos Creates an Innovative Collaboration With Mayan Communities

Category : Innovation, Sandos News, Social

On Thursday December 13, 2012 Sandos Caracol Eco Hotel and Resort hosted the official signing of a unique collaboration agreement between Sandos Hotels and cooperative community of  Xyaat in Quintana Roo.

Attended by representatives of the local press and international human rights commission, this ceremony marked the beginning of contract to promote culturally and environmentally sustainable tourism in Mayan communities in the area of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo.

The agreement creates unique opportunities for these Mayan communities to promote cultural and ecological tours directly to Sandos guests, with all of the profits for these tours going directly to the communities.  The group will also sell authentic crafts at fair trade prices, allowing community craftspeople to receive higher profits from the sales of traditional crafts.

Sandos is very proud of the efforts our Eco department has made in creating a unique program that demonstrates a strong and on-going commitment to the promotion and strengthening of the cultural identity of indigenous communities of the Maya Riviera.  We invite all guests to participate in this important new program.

Corazon y Vida Maya: Sandos Caracol Launches a New Partnership in Sustainable Tourism

Category : Social

On October 12, 2012 Sandos Caracol ECO Resort and Spa hosted a press conference to announce the launch of a new initiative to offer alternative tourism packages to our visitors.  In keeping with our mission to promote sustainable tourism practices, Sandos Caracol will be partnering with Corazon y Vida Maya (Heart and Life Maya), a local organization working to promote, revitalize, and preserve the cultural practices of their Mayan ancestors.

These new tourism packages are operated by seven rural Mayan villages on the outskirts of the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, approximately two hours south of Sandos Caracol.

This program is scheduled to begin in the winter of 2012-13 and guests of the hotel will be able to purchase tour packages from Corazon y Vida Maya.  All profits from these tours will go directly to the communities, all of which suffer from a lack of financial resources.  By participating in these educational tours our hotel guests will be able to learn more about Mayan culture and history, while also ensuring that all fees go directly to these communities in need of financial support.

Sandos Caracol is excited and honored to be a part of this new venture in community action and cultural sustainability, and we encourage all of our guests to learn more about the project.  For more information visit Corazon y Vida Maya.

Sandos Playacar visited Lol-Bel and Carrillo Puerto

Category : Social

On Saturday, September 1, 2012, Sandos Playacar visited the local Mayan villages of Lo-Bel and Carrillo Puerto in the rural area of southern Quintana Roo. Our mission was to bring household items, such as clothes and shoes, donated by our Sandista staff to these indigenous communities. Lol-Be and Carrillo are in Chemax Municipality of Yucatan Mexico, approximately three hours from Playa del Carmen. The total population is 630 inhabitants, the majority of which are children.

Most members of the communities live in traditional indigenous households, or palapas, which are handmade from local wood and palm leaves. They do not have toilet facilities inside their homes, and the majority of homes, as is traditional in the Yucatan, have dirt floors and consist of one room that houses an entire family. Community members wash their clothes by hand and typically cook on an open fire. Only one of every 25 households has a television.

Public services are very limited in these communities. A doctor visits for review and consultation every 10 days, but emergencies cases are treated with traditional medicine and transfered to the town of Valladolid due to a lack of basic facilities. Both of these communities offer kindergarten for children, but there are no local primary or secondary schools available in these towns.

Habitants have few schooling options and the majority do not complete their education past the primary level.

Sandos Playacar Beach Resort & Spa is grateful to all of our Sandista staff members who donated items and voluntarily worked extra hours to support this project. These donations make a difference in the daily lives and health of these communities. In keeping with our commitment to sustainable tourism, we hope to build a lasting relationship with Lo-Bel and Carrillo and plan to provide more information about how guests at Sandos Playacar can support this project by donating key items.

Tenerife Symphony Orchestra brings Chamber Music to Sandos San Blas

On Thursday June, 28th, Tenerife Symphony Orchestra offers a free concert in Sandos San Blas Nature Resort & Golf’s Auditorium, as a part of Tenerife’s Chamber Music Series.

After finishing the annual season of concerts at Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s Auditorium, the Orchestra’s management decided to take their art to 10 locations on the island, San Miguel de Abona being among them. Due to the availabilty of the best facilities in the municipality for such events, San Miguel’s Council has appointed Sandos San Blas’ Hall to be the venue for the concert, wich will start at 20:30 hours.

The concert will include 4 pieces of Mendelssohn and 2 of Shostakovski, all of them for string octet. The first, Opus 20: Allegro moderato con fuoco, Andante, Scherzo, and Allegro and Presto leggierissimo; the second: Prelude and Scherzo of his op. 11.

The concert is offered to the public for free, no matter whether they are staying at the hotel or not. To attend the event as a spectator, all interested persons must be present at 20:00 hours, as the doors will close once the capacity is filled. The estimated duration is 50 minutes. Obviously, the presence at the performance in swimming trunks or costume, or in open shoes is forbidden.

Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, generally known in English-speaking countries as Felix Mendelssohn (3 February 1809 – 4 November 1847) was a German composer, pianist, organist and conductor of the early Romantic period.

Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich: 25 September 1906 – 9 August 1975) was a Soviet Russian composer and pianist and was one of the most celebrated composers of the 20th century.
